   Giltwood and polychrome-decorated figural candlestick angel
   late XV th c. - early XVI th c.



   At the edge of Gothic and Renaissance art, this angel carrying a candlestick, decorated with original polychromy and gilding, was probably part of a pair on an altar. The flesh, once painted in pink, has become darker with time and smokes.

   Original base with accidents.
   Right hand and wings missing. Accidents to the left hand and drapery. Some restorations to polychromy and gilding.
   A punch mark at the base of drapery probably refers to a workshop or production city.

   Origin: Flanders or South Germany
   Provenance: art market, France
   Period: 1480-1530
