The sculpture is close to Roman art that served as a source of inspiration to medieval carvers, but differs in particular in the treatment of the eyes. The work is close to the poorly preserved sculpture of the Laon cathedral portals, the related abbey of Saint-Yved de Braine in the Aisne dept., which portals partially preserved date from 1210-1220 (angel photograph below), or the tympanum of Saint-Benoit-sur-Loire carved circa 1200 (in particular the group of monks located to the right). This group of faces was perhaps part of a church tympanum, possibly in a group of Judgement. Excellent substance, geological inlays. Mounted on a beautiful metal base.
