Italian terracotta head of a woman by Ludovico Benzoni, circa 1795

This fine young woman's head in the neoclassical taste is probably a vestal. It belongs in the artistic movement of the years 1780-1810, as expressed by its hieratic character, deliberately distant from the joyous and gallant sculpture of the years 1760-1780.

It was possible to identify the hand of the Roman artist Ludovico Benzoni by comparing the characteristics of this small head to a sculpture sold a few years ago on the Art market, signed and dated from his hand, especially the very particular shape of the eyes leaving no doubt.

Acccidents visible to the rear, lacks in the hairs.

Height with marble base: 16 cm
Height: 23.5 cm
        Ref. : md-251
