Italian baroque head of a putto

Beautiful head of a putto, whose bust emerges from a baroque foliage. This carving probably formed the angle of an altar.

This sculpture shows great plastic qualityies, showing the hand of a high-level artist or workshop, for instance in attention to details, such as the rendering of the neck muscles.

The surface cracked superbly in a way reminiscent of terracotta. It is probably a remnant of silvering, or perhaps gilding.

Mounted on a metal base.
